The Stuttgart Television Tower was commissioned and is owned by the Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR), now Südwestrundfunk (SWR).

The building of the Stuttgarter Television Tower was a groundbreaking project, both from a constructional and from an architectural point of view.

Fritz Leonhardt was the creator, designer and constructor of the Stuttgart Television Tower; one could also say "the architect", although he was actually a structural engineer by profession.

Bottom floor: technical level

Stuttgart´s Television Tower, with its height of 217 metres, was the first of its kind in the world, and thus a prototype for many other television towers. Acknolodged as an aesthetic and architectural masterpiece, this forerunner with its timeless design remains unparalleled up to the present day. 

The world's very first television tower is to be found in Stuttgart. For over 50 years now the 217-metre-high tower has defied wind and weather.
